Child Care & Protection

A major societal issue that deprives millions of young girls in India of their childhood and future is child marriage. The KSCF NGO, which is committed to enacting social change, launched the Child Marriage Free India Campaign.

Child marriage is a major problem in India, where 27% of girls marry before they turn 18, according to UNICEF figures. Young girls who marry forfeit their rights to health, education, and a life of their own choosing. It hinders communities’ overall development by perpetuating a cycle of poverty and gender inequality. LEAF saw how important it was to break this cycle and give girls the resources they need to lead happy lives.

Across the country, the Child Marriage Free India Campaign sparked a surge of activism and awareness. Through its grassroots strategy, LEAF made sure that local communities, religious leaders, and influencers were involved in addressing cultural norms and challenging long-standing practices.

In order to raise awareness of the detrimental impacts of child marriage on girls’ physical, emotional, and mental wellness, the campaign started with seminars and awareness campaigns. The NGO worked with educational institutions and schools to advocate for education as a potent weapon in the fight against this social threat.

The Child Marriage Free India Campaign by LEAF had a revolutionary effect. Communities banded together to confront the customs that continued to support child marriage as knowledge grew. Young girls and their families were motivated to oppose child marriage because they understood the importance of education and the possibility of a better future.
